Somalia Federal Election Implementation Team (FEIT) Elects its Leadership

Mogadishu, Somalia – December 5, 2020

The Federal Election Implementation Team (FEIT) is established under the National Consultative Forum and the political agreement reached in Mogadishu on September 17, 2020, by the Federal Government and Federal Member States and is mandated to hold free and fair elections in a timely, transparent and democratic manner.

The leadership elections marked the climax of a month-long training and activities to establish synergy, understanding of the tasks ahead and set operations framework for the implementation of the elections.

In line with fulfilment of its mandate, FEIT has elected its Chairperson and Deputy during a well-organized in-house election held in Mogadishu.

The highly contested elections involving 20 officials, saw Mr. Mohamed Hassan Mohamed elected Chairperson with 17 votes ahead of Dr. Liban Abukar Osman, who garnered three votes.

In the Vice Chairperson’s seat, Mr. Mowlid Mataan Salad was declared the winner after Mr. Yusuf Mohamed Kheyr conceded before the votes were cast. The committee unanimously approved Mr. Yusuf’s concession and declared Mr. Mowlid the validly elected Vice Chairperson in accordance with the voting regulations.

In conclusion, FEIT calls for the support and cooperation from the public and political stakeholders and assures the Somali public and all stakeholders that it remains focused in delivering free and fair Federal elections for Somalia.
